Holding a Wedding Rehearsal

Here's some tips to help you get everything right on the day....

  1. POSTIONING
Arrange where you will stand. A “V” formation tends to work the best, so that everybody can see what is going on…
  2. PROCESSIONAL
    (Bride walking up the aisle).
Bouquets are held just over the bellybutton. The most important part to practice. Practice with music. e.g. Bridesmaid walks first – keeps the pace (slow and natural – don’t speed up!) Count a good 10 seconds, then the MOH begins to walk (keep an even space between them).
Wait a GOOD 20 seconds, then Bride escorted by dad/mum.
Practice this several times, you will get a feel for when your movements fit in with the music.
  3. HANDOVER (optional).
Bride and dad/mum stop before they reach the position. Have a moment and then groom comes, shakes dad/mums hand and escorts bride to position while mum/dad sit down.
  4. DURING THE CEREMONY.
Matron of honour will take the bridal bouquet during the vow exchange. It is then her responsibility to give it back to the bride for working back down the aisle.
The bridal party (who are not part of the signing) should remain in place while the signing is happening.
  5. END OF CEREMONY.
Once you have sorted the formation, then work out where you will move to at the end of the ceremony. Will you walk back down the aisle? If so, where to? (Can stop at the end and be congratulated by your guests). Or will you remain where you are to be congratulated there? Will the groomsmen escorted the bridesmaids? (They will come together after a beat or two and follow bride/groom down the aisle.
